– Small Diameter CBN grinding tools reduce Cycle times and costs

 

In the field of hard finishing, BUDERUS SCHLEIFTECHNIK is relying more and more often on CBN tools with particularly small diameter (Ø 90-150 mm) for grinding workpieces such as gearing wheels. For users, this results in significant advantages with regard to tool changes, machine output and costs:

  • Easier tool changes: Smaller and thus lighter CBN grinding wheels are easier and quicker to replace.

  • Increased process stability: Small-diameter CBN grinding wheels support the stability of the grinding process, particularly in case of further surface requirements which go beyond pure Rz-Value (Rp, Rt, percentage contact area) and tend to secure more constant results.

  • Lower investment and tool costs: Small-diameter CBN tools allow for a reduced and simplified machine design,  which leads to a significant reduction in investment costs per machine. Due in part to longer service life of CBN wheels, savings in tool costs are considerable, since these are almost 70% lower than tool costs for conventional machining.

  • Higher machine output: Compared to grinding with conventional grinding disks, the use of small-diameter CBN grinding disks reduces cycle times of the grinding process and thus increases machine output by approx. 7%.
